We dive in the Mediterranean area with a strong fishing presence. We’ve years of watching abandoned fishing lines and nets. Although initially only attracted our attention, eventually we investigated its impact on the marine environment and we find the damage it do and that shouldn’t be down there. In 2014 we decided to take action, we detected a pair of deployed nets, we analyzed the area and proceeded to remove them safely. It was a success that also have local television coverage and the collaboration of a local dive center. Since that time we set as our objectives the detection, analysis, extraction, recycling ghost nets, as well as documentation of the whole process. The team is made up of GUE divers and also a non GUE volunteers among which we split the tasks.
